Billy Jonas: Happy Accidents

Billy Jonas: Happy Accidents
by AMBER on MARCH 28, 2009

We went out to see Billy Jonas at the Regent Theatre in Arlington today where he was promoting his new CD, Happy Accidents. We’ve been listening to Happy Accidents for a couple of weeks and were really looking forward to today’s performance. And Billy did not disappoint!

The show opened with the song Eyes Wide Open, full of Billy’s characteristic beat and rhythm. The performers used claps and stomps to get the audience excited and involved and moved right into the song Who’s Gonna Make Our Music? which captures perfectly the philosophy behind Billy Jonas’ work.

Music is what you make when you move, sing, clap, or make noise. We make music every day just by being who we are and interacting with the world and the people around us. Billy showed the kids that his drum was made of a large trash can and that he made another percussion instrument out of chains in a big water bottle.

He told kids they can turn anything into an instrument and the little girl sitting next to us was just thrilled when she placed her hand over her popcorn bucket and shook it, turning her popcorn into a sound maker!

Billy’s CD is a must hear, full of both fun and wisdom, but seeing Billy live is the real deal. If you get a chance to see him perform in person, don’t miss it! (And be sure to check out One Tutu Too Many on the CD—it’s a riot!)
