Billy Jonas bringing a concert for grown-ups

Here’s a quick heads-up to all you adults (and teens, too) who love funky folky music with a cool beat.

A super-special one-of-a-kind performance of Billy Jonas After Dark — a concert for grown-ups — comes to the Gaston County Public Library at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 1555 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia.

Billy Jonas After Dark is a live performance by a versatile percussive musician of his always-engaging works primarily intended for his grown-up fans.

This special event, appropriate for adults and high school students, is free and open to the public. No reservations are required for individuals and families. Advance reservations are required for all organized groups.

For nearly two decades, Jonas has been entertaining children and family audiences with high-energy, innovative percussive music and super-cool songs. Jonas’ reputation as a top-flight kids’ musician is well deserved. His award-winning recording and video work has been described as “funky folk music for the whole family…musical medicine for the mind, body and spirit of young and old alike…a splendiferous sonic sojourn into the near and far reaches of fun and fantasy, possibility and purpose, word-play, wonder, heart, and hope.”

Jonas, however, is also an adults’ musician, a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist whose remarkable talents has produced such albums as “The Time Has Come” (as one-half of The Billys), “Life So Far,” “Billy Jonas Live,” and “Get Real.”

His clear tenor voice is well-suited to a plethora of venues, from intimate settings and workshop sessions to large halls and outdoor festivals, and his high-energy shows literally fill every space.

Jonas’ music is percussion-based, making use of found objects — buckets, broom handles, bottles, key chains and more — as well as traditional instruments. But on any given day, the specific nature of this unforgettable neo-tribal hootenanny is largely determined and shaped by his audience.

A touring artist who performs both nationally and internationally, Jonas lives in Asheville.
